CRIMINAL MINDS Season 10 - It's Official, RENEWED!
Combined With Two Previously Announced Renewals, Network Has Now Picked Up 20 Returning Series for 2014-2015
Returning Series Will Include the #1 Drama, #1 Comedy, #1 New Comedy and #1 News Program
CBS, America’s most-watched network, today announced pick-ups for 18 series for next season. Combined with its previously announced pick-ups, CBS has now renewed 20 returning series for the 2014-2015 season, encompassing 17 hours of primetime programming.
“The best way to launch new shows in the fall and throughout the season is to surround them with a strong and stable lineup of successful series,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment. “The shows we’re picking up today cut across every night of the week and feature genre leaders, time-period winners and the most-watched shows on broadcast television.”
The 18 series renewed today comprise 15.5 hours of CBS’s weekly primetime schedule and include nine dramas, five comedies, two reality series and two news programs.
The nine dramas picked up are: NCIS, television’s #1 drama/scripted program for the fifth consecutive year; NCIS: LOS ANGELES, the #2 drama for the fourth straight year; time-period winners Person Of Interest, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods; as well as CRIMINAL MINDS, Elementary and the acclaimed drama The Good Wife.
The renewed comedies are 2 Broke Girls, THE MILLERS, which is the #1 freshman comedy of the 2013-2014 season, MIKE & MOLLY, MOM and the long-running hit Two and a Half Men.
In alternative programming, the Network announced pick-ups for its Emmy Award-winning reality series THE Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.
Finally, in news, CBS will return 60 Minutes, television’s #1 news program for more than four decades, and 48 HOURS, Saturday’s #1 non-sports program.
In addition to these 18 series, CBS yesterday announced a three-year broadcast deal for The Big Bang Theory. Previously, the Network announced two more editions of the reality series SURVIVOR for next season.
Season-to-date, CBS is television’s #1 network in viewers for the 11th time in 12 years, averaging 10.84 million viewers.

"Criminal Minds" beats "American Idol" for 2nd straight week!
Criminal Minds moved past "American Idol Wednesday" in L+3 Day rating in adults 18-49 (3.4 vs. 3.3, +3%). This is the second straight week, Criminal Minds outperformed "Idol" in adults 18-49 with L+3 Day viewing added. In both weeks, Criminal Minds trailed "American Idol Wednesday" when the live plus same day ratings were released.
NOTE: Remember that the measurement that really counts to appraise how profitable a show is for the network that airs it, is precisely this one, Live + 3 Day.

CBS Wins Wednesday for the Fifth Consecutive Week in Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54
CBS won Wednesday in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the fifth consecutive week as SURVIVOR: NICARAGUA continued its time-period-winning streak, CRIMINAL MINDS posted gains over last week and THE DEFENDERS placed first in viewers and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Oct. 20.
SURVIVOR: NICARAGUA was first in households (6.9/12), viewers (12.00m), adults 25-54 (4.7/13) and adults 18-49 (3.5/11). CBS swept this time slot for the sixth consecutive week.
At 9:00 PM, CRIMINAL MINDS was first in households (8.6/14), viewers (14.30m), adults 25-54 (5.0/12) and second in adults 18-49 (3.6/10). Compared to last week, CRIMINAL MINDS was up +6% in adults 25-54 (from 4.7/11), +3% in adults 18-49 (from 3.5/10) and added +300,000 viewers (from 14.00m, +2%). CRIMINAL MINDS was the night's #1 program in viewers.
At 10:00 PM, THE DEFENDERS was first in households (6.2/11), viewers (10.00m), adults 25-54 (3.1/08) and second in adults 18-49 (2.2/06). Compared to last week, THE DEFENDERS added +100,000 viewers (from 9.90m, +1%). THE DEFENDERS won the time period for the third straight week in viewers and adults 25-54.
For the night, CBS was first in households (7.3/12), viewers (12.10m), adults 25-54 (4.3/11) and adults 18-49 (3.1/09). CBS was first in these measures for the fifth consecutive Wednesday this season.

Criminal Minds, Indeed: Greedy CBS Execs Axe Cook, Slash Brewster
We at Criminal Minds Round table came accross this interesting article about CBS written by Mitch Calloway for Associated Content. Here are a few excerptsDoes CBS genuinely believe that Cook and Brewster haven't earned raises, if that is in fact the impetus of these moves? Are network executives under the impression that, because they've successfully replaced key characters in the past (Glaudini's Elle Greenway in 2006, Mandy Patinkin's Jason Gideon following the 2007 season), they'll be able to do it whenever the mood strikes them? Are they of the opinion that while Moore, Gibson, Gubler, and Mantegna are vital to the show's success, they can just plug any pretty girl into the cast at any time and audiences will accept her? Do they believe that Vangsness' Penelope Garcia, who does most of her crime-fighting behind a computer keyboard, is more integral to the day-to-day operations of the fictional BAU than two field agents who are frequently in the direct line of fire? Or do they just believe that the wisecracking, plus-sized Garcia is more accessible to female viewers in Middle America than the petite J.J. or the somewhat vampish Prentiss?
Whatever the case, their handling of this situation has been nothing short of criminal. To release the talented Cook during summer hiatus is to write her out without even bothering to give the actress or her character a send-off worthy of someone who's given so much to the show and its loyal viewers for half a decade. Downgrading the hard-working Brewster to little more than a glorified guest star is basically telling her and her fans that her contributions to the program were never as important or impactful as those of her co-stars, past and present. In short, CBS's treatment of Cook and Brewster is as disrespectful as it is illogical. Not to mention more than a little sexist...
...With so much programming available to viewers in the era of digital cable and satellite TV, is it wise for a network with nowhere left to go but down to start dumping some of its most popular on-air performers? This seems more like the sort of addle-brained decision-making that keeps NBC at the bottom of the heap than the savvy, crowd-pleasing policies that took CBS to the top. If the network brain trust doesn't quickly rethink their positions on two of primetime TV's strongest, sexiest, most popular female characters and keep Cook and Brewster around, the next victim to meet a cruel fate on Wednesday nights will be the show's ratings.

And the Award Goes To...
WTF Award: Goes to CBS, for suddenly dropping A.J. Cook from Criminal Minds and reducing Paget Brewster's episodes in order to cut costs. This leaves the show with just one female lead, so now CBS looks cheap and sexist! Why would they want to alienate fans of a show that's done so well in the ratings that it's getting a spin off in the midseason? Why is it they can't pay A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster's salaries but have no qualms when it comes to shelling out $2 million an episode for a guy who has had two of his cars stolen and driven off a cliff in one year and that is the least of his problems? Why wouldn't they at least give the cast a heads-up about all of this so they weren't stuck issuing shocked and pissed off statements through their Twitter accounts? It makes no sense to me at all.
