As cool and clever Alex Blake, Jeanne Tripplehorn has found her perfect character.

by Scott Ellis

Criminal Minds had been running for seven years before you joined. What was like coming into such an established show?
It was very nerve-racking. Before I arrived to work for the very first [script] read, I was so nervous I had butterflies in my stomach. But everybody could not have been nicer [or] more welcoming and it was kind of the smoothest transition I could have asked for.

And how is it to play someone who is, we quickly see, the smartest person in the room?
It's very, very good to be the smartest person in the room! Let's just say pretty? That doesn't mean anything here. I've played all sorts of women along the way, women who weren't very smart, who weren't very strong, who weren't the nicest people. I like playing women you can look up to, and Alex is definitely in that category.

She is the first character I know who is smarter than I am, and from an acting standpoint she was the perfect...

Criminal Minds Interview with Jeanne Tripplehorn

by Hudson Morgan

Jeanne Tripplehorn on terrific timing, cast chemistry and terrorizing tween girls
Is there better proof of the circle of life than the fact that Jeanne Tripplehorn—who first steamed her way into movie theaters as a sexy police shrink in Basic Instinct—is returning to the world of chasing psychos? This fall, the Emmy-nominated actress gets her badge as a profiler on Criminal Minds, the popular FBI procedural entering its eighth season on CBS. A lot has happened in the 20 years between these two roles, both on-screen (she’s been in everything from The Firm to Sliding Doors to HBO’s multiwifer Big Love) and off (she married actor Leland Orser and had a son, now 10). The Juilliard-trained actress, 49, even flashed her funny bone earlier this year as Dermot Mulroney’s ex-wife on New Girl, so you can pretty much forget the old Hollywood triple threat: these days it’s called Tripple-horn.

Criminal Minds: Jeanne Tripplehorn talks about the 'Female Energy' on the Criminal Minds Set Offsets Dark Subject Matter

By Matt Webb Mitovich

You could say that Jeanne Tripplehorn is feeling Big Love for her new TV role, on CBS’ Criminal Minds — this despite the at-times grisly subject matter at the heart of a series about serial killers and those who track them.

Making her debut in the Season 8 premiere (airing tonight at 9/8c), Tripplehorn plays Agent Alex Blake, a forensics linguist expert who, when the action picks up, has already been with the BAU for several weeks. She’s got Hotch’s vote, knew Reid before boarding the team and enjoys a difficult past with Strauss. Now there’s just the matter of winning over Garcia, who was away in London all this time, helping Prentiss get settled into her new life.

TVLine spoke with Tripplehorn about making the move from Juniper Creek to Criminal Minds‘ world of homicidal creeps, where women who kill with ice picks are almost quaint.

Criminal Minds: Get to Know the BAU's New Team Member

by Adam Bryant

There will be a new face joining Criminal Minds' Behavioral Analysis Unit this fall.

Jeanne Tripplehorn joins the cast in Season 8 as Alex Blake, a veteran FBI agent who specializes in linguistics. She fills the void of the departing Emily Prentiss after Paget Brewster opted to leave the series at the end of last season. Some viewers may be suspicious of the new character, but executive producer Erica Messer tells TVGuide.com that that's just fine — apparently a few of the team members will share that feeling.
