Joe Mantegna explains why the move to television

From stage to screen to tv for firearms enthusiast Mantegna

Chicago actor Joe Mantegna filmed segments of his new show Gun Stories at the National Firearms Museum's. While here, he provided a little insight on the state of his show and the entertainment industry.
The entertainment landscape has changed over the last few years. While blockbuster movies continue capturing weekend headlines, the ever favorite home game version known has television has built a never before seen stable of stars and material. A fact that was abundantly clear for veteran actor Joe Mantegna when offered a spot on CBS' Criminal Minds.

"When the opportunity came along to join Criminal Minds, after Mandy (Patinkin) left the show, I don't know if I was the first choice," said Mantegna. "I know there was talk of Harvey Keitel as a choice and Geena Davis too. What ultimately happened is that they made a decision and, lucky for me, asked me to do it."

Criminal Minds Joe Mantegna Join Newly Named ‘Ten Cent Pistol’

EXCLUSIVE: The LA Noir thriller The Go-Getters has been renamed Ten Cent Pistol with Joe Mantegna and Adam Arkin joining the movie’s cast. Ten Cent Pistol, which includes the previously reported Jena Malone too, is about two brothers whose crimes have some spirally consequences. JT Alexander and Damon Alexander play the brothers “Jacob” and “Esau.” Mantegna will play “Punchy,” a corrupt lawyer with a gift for the gab. Arkin plays “Nir Zir,” a doctor with a lot of patients in the underworld. Brendan Sexton III, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Emilio Rivera and Haylie Duff have also joined the cast of the film, which is shooting now in LA. Ten Cent Pistol is written and directed by Michael C. Martin. Matt Tauber, the Alexanders and Andy Hyde of Route 17 Entertainment are producing. Mantegna is repped by ICM Partners. Arkin is also repped by ICM Partners and managed by Principal Entertainment.

Criminal Minds: Get to Know the BAU's New Team Member

There will be a new face joining Criminal Minds' Behavioral Analysis Unit this fall.

Jeanne Tripplehorn joins the cast in Season 8 as Alex Blake, a veteran FBI agent who specializes in linguistics. She fills the void of the departing Emily Prentiss after Paget Brewster opted to leave the series at the end of last season. Some viewers may be suspicious of the new character, but executive producer Erica Messer tells TVGuide.com that that's just fine — apparently a few of the team members will share that feeling.
