It's been quite a while since CM has had a 2 part episode. I hope I'm not disappointed in it. But I'm really liking the idea that they won't be catching the unsub in the season premiere, but the week after.
ReplyDeleteSomething that really bothered me is what Kirsten said about the season premiere. She implied that they really upped the gross factor in the season premiere.
I couldn't help but cringe when I heard that and I just got to wonder just how far down do CM's ratings have to go before the people running this show realize stuff like that is a turn off to many people.
Now I suppose if the writing as a whole is good, many people will overlook it, but if it's just another case where they seem to be going for the shock value, but we end up with a poor to mediocre story, I'm not going to be too happy about it.
2 parters tend to be the best episodes when they mesh together properly. I don't think we've ever had a two part premiere though which will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe gore is an issue for me too.
It's not that I actually mind the blood and guts and ick, I think Bones and CSI are a lot more gory, but they have humour to diffuse a lot of those scenes.
CM is straight laced and they use a lot more horror film tactics and it gets a little boring at times when we get to see more of the UnSub carrying out their crimes and then get UnSub back story on top of that, so all it takes is Garcia to type a few things into a computer and hey presto, the team find the guy whose 6"4, with a receding hairline, mommy issues and money troubles, and has a fascination with cats... rather than see it all from the team's perspective and have them figure it out along with the audience.
I think every now and again gory, UnSub episodes are fine, but I wish they did those episodes a little more imaginatively.
Early seasons managed to balance gore and ick with profiling and the team a lot more better.
But I am looking forward to season 9, I thought season 8 had some good moments that they could build on. I don't think season 8 was perfect but I think they started to manage a little more old CM school episodes.
"So all it takes is Garcia to type a few things into the computer"....
ReplyDeleteI sometime feel they put way too much importance on her ability to look up things as oppose to the actually profiling itself.
Case in point the episode Profiling 101.It was suppose to be a seminar about the science of profiling. Garcia isn't a profiler so what was she doing up there with them. Not only that she actually got to do a lot of the talking, in fact she talked more than some of the profilers themselves. And what did she talk about, well she talked about what her job was as the technical analyst for the team. She certainly couldn't talk about the science of profiling itself since she knows little about it. It was totally ridiculous in my opinion
